THE KINGFISHER
By Caelan

Yesterday, I came home from school in my dad’s van. When I got inside I started reading, as I was reading, a bird smashed into the window, it was so loud that my mum heard it from her office! “ Caelan,” called my mum, “What was that?”. “I think it was a bird!” I replied.  We ran outside as fast as we could, but we were too late, the bird was already in my cat’s mouth! “Oh my god!” shouted my mum. “Is he dead?” asked my sister. “I don’t think he is” I replied. Mum went to pick him up, “It’s a kingfisher” said mum. She was right!

My mum went to go and put it in a near by tree, “Be free!!!” we all shouted in joyful voices, and we got back to work . About half an hour later my sister suddenly shouted “He’s gone now, he flew away!!!” “Really?” asked mum. We all went outside to check, then something terrible happened, the bird had fallen out of the tree . Mum called Dad to pick the bird up because she was too scared, she said “Argh! He’s all twisted and broken!”, she was very sad and worried. When Dad came out and picked up the kingfisher, he said “No, he’s fine, he might be a bit shocked I think”.

We brought him inside and my mum put him in the cat carry cage, we then called bird rescue. After that, my mum phoned our vet and she took Mr. Kingfisher to the vet to get checked over and stay the night there. In the morning the vet phoned the SPCA to pick up Mr. Kingfisher.

I got to hold and pat the kingfisher before he went - he was soft, colourful and very beautiful! I miss Mr. Kingfisher, I hope he’s ok.

Soccer Skills Training

Soccer Skills with Andy

Today we started our soccer training with Andy.

Today was our first soccer game with our new coach, Andy. I thought that I was going to be good at kicking other people's balls out. I liked the game 'tail tag'. You had to get a coloured bib and tuck it carefully down your pants, BUT not down your underpants!

After that we tried to pull other people's tails out. I thought I was good at doing fancy moves. I had a wonderful day.

Millie

Today we had soccer. Our coach was called Andy or Andrew. He was Scottish. He taught us a few Scottish words.

Today at soccer with coach Andy, we played two games of tail tag, dribbled and played a real game of soccer. I am looking forward to next week already!

I thought Nathan did really well because he didn't stop running in the big game.

I was boiling hot at the end.
