Homework - Weeks 4 and 5 (11 - 22 Aug)
For the next couple of weeks students will continue normal reading homework.
We are now very busy researching and recording information about our chosen artist(s). Students need to spend time collecting information, writing notes and planning for their presentation.
Holiday Homework
Learn the spelling words in your home learning book. Write them into sentences.
Complete the maths pages in your maths homework book.
Remember to keep a reading log of all the books you read.
Writing ideas:
- Write a diary of your holiday
- Write a poem
- Create a comic book about your holiday
Congratulations! You worked so hard to learn the science facts. Thank you for bringing in your sponsor money, we raised $1,086.30 in Room 5.
Science-athon Homework
Remember to keep working on learning your science facts!
Look at the slide show on the website to help you learn the 50 facts.
We have prizes to give out too, so remember to collect sponsors.

Spelling and READING homework should still be handed in on Thursdays. Don't forget.
Remember to bring your homework in to class every THURSDAY
Due to House Spirit Day some of you didn't take your homework home for the weekend. We will sort it out on Monday.
Homework tasks will begin in week 3, 10 February.
Homework 7 March - 12 March
This week's homework includes:- Read every night.
- You are showing independence and responsibility by selecting books you would like to read - from home, the school library or book boxes in class, and recording these in your reading log book.
- Spelling words - remember to say and write these at least 5 times this week so that you learn the spelling patterns.
- Maths Homework Book - Look at pages 2 and 3. Ask someone to mark these with you so that you can see where you have made a mistake and go back to try it again.
Does your brain still need more?
Here are some ideas:- Cinquain Poem - write a poem about someone in your family. I have added the outline at the end of this post.
- Research - what can you find out about how communities in New Zealand have changed because of human migration.
- Remember Study Ladder - look at the maths and literacy challenges.
- Design a book cover for a book you have read.
Cinquain Poem
A cinquain is a simple five-line poem that follows a pattern.

Homework 28 February - 6 March
This week's homework includes:
- Reading every night - either a book chosen from the selection in class or one from home or the library
- Spelling words - say each letter as you copy the word, write the word again and say it, then cover the word and write it. Check that you got it right. Write each word into a sentence to show you can use the word correctly.
- Maths homework book - This is the first week using these books. Complete the first half of page 1 this week.
- Basic facts - addition and subtraction basic facts.

Keep working on your basic facts. Quick recall means answering within 2 seconds.
Note to parents:
Tasks include reading, spelling, maths and basic facts. We also encourage children to do their own research related to our inquiry unit.
Remember - bring your book bag to school every day.
